Solacia's Concept as Explained by the Queen
Solacia was founded with this hypothetical scenario in mind: What if a small part of the ancient Celtic lands somehow managed to escape Romanization? What kind of culture would exist today if this little corner of Europe had been allowed to evolve into the modern age without being touched by the influence of monotheism? Now, I am not trying to go after Christianity or modern Christian people, but the reality is that this relatively new religion has had a massive impact on Europe that still exists. Had the Romans not been so successful in their conquest, the Pagan peoples likely would have gone on to evolve into the modern age, keeping much of the important aspects of their culture intact. The Morrigan, Bridget and Lugh would still be gods worshipped today, and the ideals and values of Pagan society would not have been replaced by Christian ones. Had the bards, shamans, and other wisemen and wisewomen of our ancestors not been slaughtered by the thousands, so much more of pre-Christian history would have survived. We would have a much clearer image of who the ancient Europeans were, how they lived, and what they believed.
Though Solacia takes much of its inspiration from the distant past, I am not trying to say that life was necessarily better back then. I am grateful that we live in a time of relative peace, when disease and warfare aren't the rampant killers that they used to be. People are living much longer, healthier lives now than ever. Science and technology have given us so much safety and comfort over the ages that I would never suggest that we go back to living exactly as the ancients did. However, I do think that there are some valuable aspects of pre-Christian culture that have gotten lost over time. As Solacia's queen, my job is to take the very best parts of both the modern and ancient worlds and try to combine them as harmoniously and practically as possible.
Solacia is a nation dedicated to exploring the possibilities of this hypothetical scenario, through art, crafting, reenactments and other mediums of self-expression. Solacia has a strong current of whimsy and romanticism running through it, inviting its citizens to imagine what life would be like if they could live in a magical time and place that more closely resembled that of their ancestors of both spirit and blood. Solacia is also a very pragmatic nation, firmly rooted in practical action and realism. Our kingdom has a large focus on industry and economy, as well as the pursuit of greater self-sufficiency and less reliance on macronational governments. Solacia strives to be as independent as possible, reducing contributions to large corporations and macronational governments to the absolute minimum while protecting and healing the natural environment. Our goal is to create an alternative society where the citizens can feel a genuine pride in their nationality, something that many people find difficult to do in their current macronational countries of residence. I was not happy identifying strongly as either "American" or "German", so I founded my own country, a country that anyone may live in no matter where they are physically located on the planet. It is my greatest hope is that my fellow citizens will one day feel the same swelling of pride that I do when they can say with confidence, "I am a Solacian".
